The Blood Moon Rises Walkthrough

Introduction

The Blood Moon Rises is Old School RuneScape's Grandmaster finale to the Myreque saga, released June 30, 2026. The quest sends you from the Icyene Graveyard through Darkmeyer, Slepe, Castle Drakan, the vampyre homeland of Vampyrium, and multiple boss arenas before culminating in a three-phase rooftop duel against Lord Lowerniel Drakan. Official length is Very Long—expect six to ten hours on a first clear, longer if Drakan mechanics require multiple attempts.

This hub links to sectional guides so you can jump to the segment you are stuck on. Each subpage covers one major arc with puzzle solutions, combat tips, and supply notes. Read the requirements page first if you have not verified your quest chain and skill gates.

Quest Structure

The walkthrough divides naturally into four acts:

  • Quest Start & Early Morytania — Icyene Graveyard shrine, Darkmeyer defence with Ivan Strom, Slepe investigation in The Truth Hurtz, and Myreque Hideout book puzzle
  • Castle Drakan & Vampyrium — Portal entry, clock emblems, moon keys, haemalchemic stockpile, and first Drakan spear fight
  • Blood Hunt & Forest Escape — Jovkai key altar code, forest pursuit, darkwood chopping, Nylocas waves, blood serpent wrangling, Aranei hideout prep, Theatre segment, and Wyrd battle
  • Final Fight — Night of the Blood Moon — Icyene Graveyard portal return, supply prep, and three-phase Lowerniel Drakan rooftop war

Death mechanics differ by section. Inside Vampyrium and most instanced fights, you keep all items and respawn at checkpoints with unlimited local supplies. Hardcore ironmen still lose status on any death. Standard accounts pay no death fees during quest instances.

Mechanics That Span the Quest

Several systems repeat across acts and deserve upfront understanding:

  • Vampyrium supplies — Mysterious jerky, smelly kebab, foul chunky potions, putrid sticky potions, rank frothy potions, rancid slimy potions, and jars of congealed blood replace conventional food and potions. They cannot be banked but restock at supply tents after deaths.
  • Vampyrebane weapons — Blisterwood and hallowed gear are mandatory for vyres, the Wyrd, and Drakan. Damage against Drakan caps around 26–28 per hit regardless of strength bonus.
  • Drakan dodge rhythm — Lowerniel's spear combos use blood marks on his body, red glow timing, and audio cues. Practice the camera angle (high, same vertical axis as the boss) during the first Castle Drakan fight—it repeats in every subsequent encounter.
  • Checkpoint respawns — Major fights supply nearby tables with unlimited potions. Use quick escape south during the first Drakan fight if supplies run low.

Unlock the Castle Drakan teleport on Drakan's medallion by praying at the shrine inside the castle front door—doing so before the Blood Hunt saves enormous travel time if you leave the instance.

Boss Encounters at a Glance

You will fight Lowerniel Drakan four times at escalating difficulty: a tutorial spear duel in Vampyrium (~3,000 HP), a hideout defence at ~58% HP, a Night of the Blood Moon segment ending at ~30% HP, and the final three-phase rooftop war at the Icyene Graveyard portal. Between Drakan fights you face the Wyrd (Safalaan, level 564) near Burgh de Rott, simplified Theatre of Blood bosses including Nylocas Vasilias, and waves of vyres, venators, and nylocas during traversal sections.

Detailed mechanics for the Wyrd and final Drakan phases live on our Wyrd boss page and Lord Drakan boss page. This walkthrough focuses on quest sequencing and puzzle solutions; those pages drill into attack patterns and gear swaps.

After Completion

Finishing the quest unlocks Vampyrium on the world map, tolerance from Morytania vyres, restored Burgh de Rott pub with a fermenting vat, and post-quest PvM including the Maggot King, Bloodwood trees, Leechfin fishing, Stymphike Hunter, and Venator Slayer. You receive three tomes of experience (30,000 XP each to any skill above 70), quest points, and several untradeable rewards documented on our rewards page.

Start with the quest start guide if you are at the Icyene Graveyard and ready to inspect the makeshift shrine.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long does The Blood Moon Rises take on average?

First completions typically run six to ten hours including Drakan learning curves. Speedruns after mastery can finish in under four hours with practiced dodge mechanics.

Can I leave and resume the quest?

Yes. Most segments save checkpoint progress. Vampyrium deaths respawn you at nearby supply points with all items. Teleporting out of Drakan fights may require returning via the Icyene Graveyard boat and portal.

Which walkthrough section is hardest?

The final rooftop Drakan fight at the Icyene Graveyard portal is the hardest segment—three phases with blood waves, prayer disables, and tick-perfect spear dodges. The Wyrd fight is the second most common sticking point.

Do I need Theatre of Blood raid experience?

Helpful but not mandatory. The quest Theatre segment is easier than the raid. Knowing Nylocas colour weaknesses (white melee, green magic, blue ranged) and Maiden basics prevents unnecessary deaths.
